motorcycle headlight??

i see a lot of guys that have what appear to be motorcycle headlights on their bikes. my question is...........are they functional? or are they just for looks? and if they are functional how do you do it??

On my Flatliner I have a 12v gel cell battery in the box on the rear rack.

thats pretty neat, but i dont really want the big box on the rack.

I know some of the members have used special drill bits to drill holes in the back of the glass bulbs to mount LEDs in to the bulbs.
