im considering hanging a motor on one of my bikes this summer. currently the bike has a coaster brake rear hub which i of course do not want to use with a motor. i assumed that i should use a free wheel. does anyone have any suggestions? also, the front wheel has smaller diameter axl and a narrow road bike tire, will that be ok for a motorized bicycle? if i build it i plan to commute on it - weather permitting. any input would be greatly appreciated!

i run a coaster brake on mine but you could add a hand brake to the front for faster stops.use both not just the front

I'd sugest using a little 2-stroke kit. 50-65cc anything larger and they're just blowing smoke. Coaster brakes work fine. When I had the two stroke on my bike I put about 40mi on that coaster brake no problem. I have some simple how to vids regarding bike kits. I just finished breaking my 4-stroke engine. I think that 2-strokes are more reliably mounted and easier to pedal when not engaged, they are also lighter. The only disadvantage is that you have to mix your gas. Here's my link: http://www.youtube.com/5cud6uddy also, feel free to IM me if you got any questions.

Also, those engines only put out 6 volts. So you might want to fix up a 12v light system. I was thinking that a rechargable deer feeder battery and some fog lights should do the trick.

thanks for the info guys! i have more questions now... i heard that sometimes 2 stroke motors backfire and if im using a coaster brake it'll throw me over the bars. also, does anyone ever use multi speed internally geared hubs? i have a 3 speed that i could use if it's do-able.
