Mtn Bike ..Maybe? What make and info?

I dont know much about bikes like this, I told a friend Id try to get some info on it for him.

The serial Number Reads; GG707054 on the rear left dropout.
I asked if there was anything under the crankset, and he said it was stamped 68k

If its any help.. he lives in Perth, Western Australia.

Honestly, it could be anything. Just as a guess I'd say its probably 1980's Japanese made and it looks like a road bike to me. It has stamped dropouts without a derailleur hanger so I'd say its probably on the "entry level" end of the spectrum.

+1 to SSG's assessment: Definitely a roadbike, probably Japanese or Taiwanese, definitely low-end. Has little to know collector/resale value, but can likely be built into a nice, practical bike.

Thanks, Ill pass that along. I was browsing some serial numbers myself and came up with some insane list of what each digit meant and I felt like I was reading Sanyo Stereo Instructions.

Run of the mill steel road bike, probably 10 or 12 spd.. Neither junk nor special snowflake. I would guess Giant as well, but don't take it to the bank.
