i just scored two free bikes - a 6-speed huffy causeway cruiser and a women's mountain bike. between the three free bikes i scored in the past two weeks, i have enough parts to make the huffy into a cool rat bike. i'm on an uber thight budget and the only things i'm looking to drop coin on is a pair of grips and two cans of krylon.

my main issue is with the 6-speed rear wheel, it requires handbrakes which would kill any idea of painting the wheels or will it? is there anyone here that has created a multi speed rat? besides finding someone to trade with, what options do i have?

thanks and please forgive my obvious noob questions.

i ran into the same problem when i made lucky 13.

it has a 3 speed internal rear hub, and painted rims. i knew if i threw hand brakes on the bike, the allum. painted rims would look like garbage in no time at all.

so i did what any rat rodder in my shoes would have done.
got creative!

coaster (pedal back brake) on a front rim.
ie "the suicide brake!"

I've seen bikes where the spoke hole surface of the rims are painted, and the brake surface is left bare metal.

actually thought of that this morning - the colors won't be too far off as the wheel is a silver/aluminum color and i am planning on painting the wheels white.

Thats what I would do, just paint the tops of the rims

it's called lucky 13. (formerly the destiny build) if your interested, it's in the gallery and you'll find the build thread if you search either name.

i good budy of mine released the "drunk chick's trading cards" featuring his art. he's since moved on to mini book's. :)
just wanted to check out the rest of your set.
