Yes that's right I'm going all in on the Twin. Mini twin that is! I got my work cut out for me but it's a dream come true to own one.

So I'm assuming those are 20" wheels, by the handlebar height being below bench level?

Don't believe I've ever seen one of these. Really cool idea and build bike!

Yeah it's hard to look past the wrong parts and see what it is. Probably why no one else realized what it was. Here's a look at what it should look like.

These were only made for one year 1968 and from what I understand there are only around a thousand of them out there.

Enter parts bike #1
Found this guy at the scrapyard for $10

Schwinn 5 speed derailer, nice hubs, mirror, Schwinn S shifters, nice brakes, headbadge and screws, lots of great parts.

Those MiniTwinn can be cool. Have fun !

Started scraping the layers of paint away to reveal the original color and I had no idea these came in pink??? 1968 Schwinn Mini Twin I'd think it was red but I did test spots in spots sun fade would not happen and still pink. ???

Fair Lady mini twin.
Don't have chaingaurd ?

:forum:
Nope I got it with multiple wrong parts on it. No chain guard. I'm hoping it's the same as a standard twin or I might have to fab one up out of 2 regular guards and some scrap metal.

So looking through the 1968 catalog I only see available colors listed as Campus green, copper tone, and sky blue none of which look even close to this... I'm kinda puzzled.

That baby blue is sort of cool…..
I have a plan for that frame... The wheel hubs, mirror, derailer, and shifters will be going on the mini twin tandem then this will be stripped to frame, fork, and crank then made into a single speed.

Add these fenders with cool reflector.

Walmart huffy I picked up. Has a bent frame so just parts but plenty of great parts.

It's good the Continental will get roadworthy. Those wheels off the Huffy might go right on. Even though it's a 27" bike, the coaster brake will make it easier. I put those size wheels on my 65 Continental, only a 3 speed with coaster brake. You might have to go with 2.0 tires.

Looking at the tandem frame, a couple things don't add up. It's a Chicago Schwinn going by the dropouts, but the Mini Twinn only came in coaster or 2 speed auto. Yours has fixtures for gear cables on the front tubes and they look factory. The rear seat stay fender mount bracket isn't curved like in the illustrations and pics, it's flat to mount a caliper brake. It looks like it came in red which also doesn't add up.
Maybe they had a 5 speed model? In a different year? Check the serial number, maybe it will help.

I took it down to bare metal and the bottom color was pink. It may have been redone in the past but there's not a trace of anything under the pink so they had to do a very thorough job of it. The cable mounts and all look factory and of the time period. Serial number puts it as March of 1968. The rear brake bridge has a weld repair so may it may have been replaced.

Maybe dealer add ONS?

Also has these little block nubs on the forward crank housing and kickstand barrel in the rear. There looks to be a hole for a cable to run through. It's got me puzzled as to exactly what the story is here. No other Schwinn tandem looked like the mini twin (26" and 24" versions) both had a third stay between the seat stay and chain stay. Date code puts it at March of 68, also has other bolt tabs with factory looking screws you wouldn't need for a single speed or kickback model.

If this is someone's creation I must say bravo! đź‘Ź

I'm going to be painting it VHT burnt copper which is really close to the Schwinn Coppertone color that would have been one of the 3 available colors along with Sky Blue and Campus Green.

Did this a while back with the same paint so this is the color.

For the Continental I may also use these cool mag rims I picked up but they are freewheel and I'd have to figure out braking.
