3 red stripes is the earlier 2 speed kickback model, some say the brakes are better. Same as the yellow, but uses discs instead of brake shoes. The diagram I posted above has the red band at the top.

I wish I could find one.

And now I have a rebuilt rear hub.

I didn't take any pics of the process since it's a messy job, but it is pretty much much doing the reverse of taking it apart, only the parts are cleaner. Until you smear grease all over them.

Weighs in at around 3.75lbs

And I'l just put it here for a while.

I think I found rims but won't be ordering them for a few days. I did order a few smaller things for it today - pedals, a chain, and a front hub. The next order should cover everything else it needs expect spokes. I want to have the rims and hub in hand before ordering those.

Sound decision. What rims are you getting?

10 5/8 at 4 cross with a 26 inch rim. If you want to use a S-7 rim like was on that bike They are 10 7/8 I believe. I will do some looking to be sure.

Ok this is strange. I didn’t know about pinned rims not being welded. This is how my fatbike rim is, and what I thought was a weld is just paint.

I think this bike is gonna keep the coaster brake.

Thank you.

I think I am going to order two of these

This bike has what I believe to be the OG Fauxraya 7X, the Taiwanese Sumo 26x1.75" and they are quality as well. It's nice to see someone is keeping that style in production, which says a loit about the original design.

So here's the thing,

The weather today was beautiful. I was out walking the dog, thinking about projects when I decided I really want to find a 1962 Typhoon frame to build up. A lot like this bike actually, but more off road oriented. I was born in '62 and have wanted to have a '62 Schwinn for a while now.

This bike was going to be a cruiser, using the stock fork and smooth whitewall tires. No front brake. A cruiser with higher bars basically. So it would have the same use as my Sanctuary 7.

The imaginary '62 Typhoon would have a tubular fork, front brakes, off road tires, MTB pedals, etc., but otherwise use a lot of the same parts as this Typhoon.

Hmm...

When I got home I looked through the parts I have. To my surprise I realized I have a spare MTB stem, bars, front brake, brake lever, chain (oops, ordered one before I knew), and a few other things. It makes no sense to build this up as a cruiser when I have the S7. And all these MTB parts.

Long story short - Status update. (?)

This frame is now going to be used on a different build. It has become a placeholder for parts I'll put on a '62 Typhoon frame when/if I find one. I did the math if I go the MTB route the only parts I'd have to add to what I was already going to buy is a fork and a headset. Or at least a crown race.

SO, pending review of the official officiating officials, I will be starting a new build thread in the winter build off section of the forum in the off road category which will represent the new build configuration.

Stay tuned for details.

In all seriousness, the only work I've done so far is rebuild the rear hub. The fork I installed isn't going to be used anyway, and it's hand tight, not even adjusted yet. I'm pretty sure I can sneak this one by them, though I'm not above offering up a chocolate chip cookie or two if it will smooth the decision...

I am a Tornado guy, and I will never like the Typhoon as much.

Even though it’s probably a stronger bike.

I remember breaking a seat stay loose on mine after too many wheelies & curb jumps.

BUT, Someday a nice Tornado will show up, and I will do one for this forum.
