My favorite Bike. 19?? Huffy Galaxie

I guess this would be the place to show my favorite Bike. I bought this Huffy at a bike shop with the usual dry rot tires and so much rust you could barely see chrome. But hey....he only wanted $40. I dismantled, SOS'ed, lubed, added new WWs and tubes, and installed a smaler crank for the PA hills! I even rode it nine miles to work instead of my mountain bike last summer!! I never did date it though. Sixties issue I suspect. Serial on dropout is 3H06247. Any decoders out there?

That are cool bikes . Lots of variations around. When the space race started in the 60's everybody jumped on the bandwagon and started producing everything with a space theme.good price. :wink:

Nice find. I have some info on dating your bike gotten off the web a while back:

Huffy Serial Numbers
Determining a Huffy's age requires two steps:

The last digit of the year of manufacture can be determined by the first digit of the serial number.
Then you have to look for other characteristics to determine the decade of manufacture.
Example:
Your serial number starts with "5"
Your cycle has 26 x 1.75 tires
Your cycle has a built in tank
This would be a cycle manufactured in 1965

The other thing I found out was what the letters mean.....H is a Huffy...........M is a Murray............S is a Sears
If I'm wrong I have been duped!

My Huffy is also a "63" and I'm forever trying to find out it's history. As an eight year old I got a new 1960 Sears 24" with tank. As I got older I yanked the tank,chain guard, rear rack,fender headlight, and fenders off and put on ape hanger bars! Wished I had kept it all.

dig the huffy floyd and i too have an early like 62 or 63 huffy... well actaully its a jch, but built by huffy and our frames look about the same., except i got no tank :cry:
