Continued from another post, I thought it'd be neat for everyone to tell us what their first ride was. My 1st bike was a purple banana seat bike, possibly a Ross, which was stolen within 2 weeks. :( I barely got the chance to ride it! After we moved, my parents took me to Child World to pick out a new bike. I chose a red, white & blue Columbia All-American, from the 'spirit of 76' era bikes of the time! I soon realized it'd look much better without the goofy red fenders, and stickers & doo dads. Guess I started early! My 1st rat was a 1956 Schwinn Corvette I bought at a yard sale in 1980 for $2.50! I still have it, though every part has been swapped out several times over for better parts! It will re-emerge eventually, in stock restored form, save for a 3 speed Sturmey caster hub, and standard cruiser bars. :D ~Adam

My first bike was a 1960 Hawthorne, red with a Full tank, with rocket headlights. I was 7 years old, could barely reach the pedals. I slipped off them a "few" times, I'm surprised I was able to father children. ...Last year they had an exact bike on ebay for $100, I didn't bid on it.............I wish I did. :( .... Soooo, if anyone knows the whereabouts of one of these beauties, PLEASE, let me know. ...I CAN REACH THE PEDALS NOW!! And if I slip, ay my age it won't matter!

A few weeks ago, I dug my first ever bike out of a shed behind my parents place. It's an early 80s 16 inch Kent BMX bike, nothing special. I got it when I was about 4, and I loved it. When I dug it out of the shed, it was rotting into the ground underneath a pile of old road and mountain bikes that I abused over the years. I rebuilt the hubs, painted the rims, greased everything, and put some new tires on it. I spent about 30 minutes skidding around my driveway on it the other day. I felt ridiculous, but hey, it was my first ever bike, and its still ridable.
Just after I picked it up and cleaned the dirt off it:

And after I scrubbed the rust off the frame, painted the rims and threw some new tires on it:
