I decided to try my luck at a salvage yard this morning and snagged my first Stingray for a whopping $1.72! I would have been super stoked if I had gotten moving 20 minutes earlier before Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel got to it, but he didn't tear it up too bad. The serial number puts it at August 11, 1965 (my dad's 16th birthday). I think I can fix the bent rear triangle since there don't appear to be any cracks or kinks in the tubes.

i think that is the VERY rare, maybe even one of a kind "Swing Ray".

if it were mine i'd take the left pedal off and hang it up out side my garage or in my shop and hang a sign running under the banana seat saying "old bikes wanted".

The left half of the bars and the chain are all that are missing.
Cool bike, now you don't need to send me a pm  By the way, I have a chain but I don't know if it's possible to ride that bike :|

I am planning on stripping the frame, locking the bottom bracket in my vice and using a pipe to pull it back into shape. If I can get it straight I will recreate my father-in-laws first bike. Hope to have it ready by father's day.

Me and you can have a build off in the spring  I'd totally do it

I wanna know what it is with scrap yards. They are killing bikes, all around the world, on a daily basis.

You only have to be an idiot to tell some bikes are obviously worth more than scrap.

And now with this supergeek TV show, "Pickers" how deep in a cave must one live not to understand there is small treasure under grandma's back porch.
