winters boredom has sunk in and the creative insanity or just insanity has set in. i have an extra frame (huffy diamond, nothing special) that was a mountainbike that i converted to single speed. now i need a bike that i can use to roll on down to the grocerystore and laundry mat, and i am finna to not only put on a rear rack and a front one as well, but am going to build a boxbed out of wood to attatch permanetly to the rack and add supports to attatch it to the bike. i havent handbuilt a boxbed onto a bike since i was 7 and my dad built one for the back of my "big wheel" bike.

now the box itself has gotta be big enough for at least my tools and s few bags of groceries. my first specs put it at 15"wide x 10" deep... now i could be safe and just go a length of like 20", OR throw caution to the wind and go like 40" long and add a 3rd 24" wheel behind the rear wheel for support. how wild would that be? has anyone attempted to made a 3 inlined wheeled tricycle. with the industrial gearing on it, its NOT built for speed, but i thought i could throw a 24" wheel onto an extra fork laying around and then just mate up the rear 3rd fork at the rear of the extra long box on back behind the drive wheel.

should i play it safe OR should i build this 3 wheeled bike truck frankenbike? now if i could actually rig up steering to the rear 3rd wheel itself...

I think a three wheel inliner would be kinda tricky to steer and navigate uneven terrain...Sounds like a cool idea tho IF you could make it work.

OK,now ya got ME thinking about it...

How about 2 frames, back to back sharing a common center wheel with a suspention fork at each end to steer...The rear fork would have to steer opposit of the front.

If those trail a bikes follow the bike without a steering system, why wouldn't an inline third wheel rack? You would have to have a pivot somewhere so it would follow along but I'd think it would work. Take a look at those trail a bike things that attach to the seat post and let the kid ride along sort of like a tandem. That should work eh?

Can you stretch the frame and do something like the Big Dummy?

i accept i will not be able to ride on uneven surfaces, unless i could figure out a suspension system for the rear wheel and add a front suspension fork. that way, each end would be able to soak up minor to moderate uneven riding surfaces. perhaps going down to a 20" rear wheel in back would help.

i also thought about the trailer with seatpost pivot point idea, and I DO remember those towbehind "half a bike with a kid on it pedeling" things from back in the day. i am limited to primarily wood as my building materials as i have no access to welders, and knowing how to weld only makes it more frusterating. . the box part of the trailer is a no brainer, id have to design a sturdy yet functional "arm" to go from box to connection at the bikes seat post. OR... i convert the bikes rear rack with a homeade "5th wheel" style hitch   . wouldn't be that hard if you think about it and useing the rear rack to put on and support a semi truck's tractor "5th wheel" set up to your trailer. a better connection than a seatpost and more leadway for coming up with "ratty innovations" and customizationing.

better yet, i can do this trailer thing in the beloved style of the old "teardrop" style trailers. single or dual wheels could work on this, but i bet with an old fork mounted on the back of my box bed or "teardrop" idea, and a single wheel, i could pull this off. anyone up for a rat style "teardrop trailer" build off?
