I build stuff.
I have been ordering bike stuffs from Nashbar since college (read: late 90s) and I still get catalogs and e-mails from them and pick up something every once in a while. I didn't know until my last order that they are owned by Performance Bicycle, so now I have to pay sales tax since they have Performance stores in NC.
Back in the late 90s they had some SUPER deals, but now, not as much.
Today I got an e-mail that said "At least 72 items at at least 72% off!" so I checked it out.
I did my normal thing and sorted the items by price lowest to highest and started going through them. Nothing too special till I saw a GT BMX frame for 16" tires for $9!!!! I put it in my cart, and a 20" frame for the same price, then a basket for my wife's bike, then a saddle for me, then I started the check out. Removed the 20" frame, I don't need anymore of them, but that 16" frame was going to be PERFECT for my son. http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10 ... 1___202337
With the 3 items and shipping (big charge for frame) it came to around $51. I wasn't sure if the money was in the checking account so I ran to an ATM a couple miles away and moved my money from savings into checking (mad money vs. bill money). Came back to the office and tried to complete the order but this time the GT frame was out of stock!! Crap.
I was pretty upset.
I called customer service and asked if possibly some orders hadn't gone through and they still had one left, but they said no, I was out of luck.
So just before I abandoned the purchase I looked at their frames again, no more $9 frames for my son, but I did find this cool 26" wheel women's Schwinn cruiser frame for $24, so I bought it to upgrade my wife's bike:
