I'm almost done with my '67 Spyder 5-speed (Murray built). I'm taking it, the Silver Rat, a Silver Jet, and the '63 Huffy to a show tomorrow. The chaingaurd is me last obstacle I have not yet tackled.

The chaingaurd has frail remnants of the original silk screen on it and the entire gaurd is chrome. I have cleaned decals with Dr. Bronner's soap but that was on painted surfaces. I have to scrub this chrome and I'm scared to try my usual SOS pad method.

I do have a can of No. 7 Rubbing Compound. It used to be my go-to until they went out of business

It's been in my mom's attic. If need be, I can use that magic can of orange paste!

LOOKING FOR SUGGESTIONS! Thanks!

Available on EBay is a product called AUTOSOL. I know it won't help you in time. I purchased a couple of tubes of this from Japan. Product is made in Germany. I would try Mother's Chrome polish as a backup.

No 7 is made by Cyclo Industries, LLC they are not out of business. I recently bought their Clearcoat polishing compound at Autozone. Checking their web site they are still going strong... MADE IN THE USA products!

I'd be very tempted to mask off the decal/silkscreen and polish the rest. Don't apply your tape directly to the fragile lettering however. Tape a piece of paper over them.
You can spot polish with a rag wrapped around a Q tip but it is tedious and you still have to be very careful of stuff you do not want to rub away.

I just wanted to take a moment and say THANK YOU to all of you for your suggestions. The Spyder is GORGEOUS and I'm beat from the show yesterday. I was parked with the cars, next to a nice couple and their '97 Corvette. the motorcycle guys went nuts over the bikes and the Spyder brought a lot of attention and revived fond memories of people who remembered the Muscle Era.

I literally got the bike ready the morning of the show; typical for me! I REALLY should be on TV as often as I cut it close!

I think I'll drive it like I stole it tomorrow morning after a nice Sunday rest  I'll post pics as well in a new thread!
