New here. I have a 1971 VW Bus that I would like to buy a Muscle bike to display with it. I came across a reproduction Schwinn Grape Krate still in the box. The guy wants $400 for it. Now I want to use it to ride around at car shows, camping and around the neighbor hood with the kiddos. Do you think this a fair price. Thanks for your advise.

Sounds about accurate for a 90's repro in mint condition, I have seen them sold for that, but if it is the later walmart ones it would be worth half that at best, can you post a pic? Those repros are nice riders.

ahh! scratch that its a sting ray. ummm, the price sounds about right for those little things, but id look around for a little more used one then clean it up. probably get it cheaper

fair price for a collectors bike but if your just going to ride the thing and want to spend less money it shouldn't be too hard to accomplish. i would find something cheaper anyway unless you just really want a grape krate to roll around on.

Thanks for the information. Willg, I can't post pictures because the bike is still sealed in the orignal box. The main thing holding me back from buying this bike is that it is brand new in the box. I would feel kind of bad opening it assembling it and riding it. It is local so I wouldn't have to deal with shipping it. Humm, what to do?

Also, how can you tell if its a good repro or a wal mart? What is the diffrence? I see a few black ones and blue ones, are those the wal mart bikes? Any links or information would be appreacited.

The walmart repros arent bad, It was my primary bike for a long time, It's just the chrome rusts fast, the seat tears easy, and the tires crack easy, to name a few problems. I will post threads that have the bikes pictured in them.

The first 2 bikes pictured that are green and black are stock Walmart Black Friday Krates (these are the walmart repros)

This first bike is a 90's krate, as you can see, longer fork, sprung sissy bar, nicer sprocket, just better quality
