I have recently gone over 3 New Departure hubs, strip down, clean new grease oil the works still amazed how they hold up with probably no maintenance in 50 or more years.
Any way during the first rebuild I had the idea that maybe I should take the glaze off the brake disks. I didn't do it on the first one, it stops so so . I took the glaze off the next 2 with 220 emery cloth double sticky taped to a flat surface . I also took care to orient the disks as to the direction that they were punched out there is an ever so slight dish and sharper edge to one side. I kept the disks in the same order that they came out in when the were put back in. The last 2 stop much better than #1 Any body else do this?

Haven't lately, but when I was younger, and they were common, I used to do it with a honing stone. Helps keep the oil from squeezing out, and stops squealing too.
