After looking at and being inspired by Gary's Grandpa Rockhopper build:
http://www.ratrodbikes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=28994

I was wondering if the idea of a Diamond frame buildoff appealed to anyone?
I've noticed a few diamond framed bike builds lately, (plus starting my own).

Maybe it could be an 'Anything goes, diamond frame build'

It would have to be an 'unofficial' build off like the Muscle bike, Ladies and head-to-head ones done recently.

I know we just finished RRBO5, but I like to keep everyone busy!
Thoughts???

Wildcat,
If I get enough responses, then sure. I've never run an online buildoff before, so any advice would help.

Gary,
Only if you make it look like the 11K 'Vintage Modern' one on eBay! Naw, with your skill it would look too awesome!

i don't know how interesting they'd be to anyone else, but i'm currently working on two diamond frame bikes. one of them is getting too nice for me to be seen on, so now i'm working on a rattier one, which will be pretty much a total rebuild.

maybe i should start taking pictures... of course with Tankenstein and XC204 showing interest, i might as well concede defeat before i even start...

This thing is still a dream, but i was thinking of 'classes' for this 'event'.
1. Lightweight - ratted out, or restored or resto-customed skinny wheeled creations
2. Middleweight - see above only, well you get it
3. Ballooners - you see where I'm headed here?
4. Monsters - I'm talking burritos, one-off customs, pedal powered blenders, you name it.

Thoughts?

I like the classes idea. I'm a little busy with house proj. right now but I have a couple of steel mtb frames that I would give to any one local that wanted material.

I'd say yes---but at this time I'm a bit over loaded with other projects. But I do like your ideas.Dimond frames are the simpliest form of cycle so a full kustom class would really open up the possabilites--I've done several kustom bikes using diamond frames,a couple were fixies, one had a motor, another a 28" English roadster (now a 5 speed)

Just a little note on interest on this style I took Grandpa RockHopper to the LBS today to mess with the Specialized factory reps. They came with a trailer full of road bikes. I wish it had been the MTB guys as it started as such. They were floored when they found out what it started as. Gave out some RRB flyers to interested people.

Guys (and gals),
Unfortunately, I've just been handed a TON of new work at my 'real' job and won't have the time to 'host' a build off. If someone wants to take the 'diamond shaped ball' (it is football season afterall) and run with it, I'm handing it off.

Cheers!
Dr. T
