new guy needs help with bars

i just sanded down the chrome and painted a set of crusty "apes" i found, i put them on my bike but after tightening with all my might i can still move them around inside the gooseneck, i really wanna use these bars (i'm broke) but they won't stay tight, any ideas, maybe some kind of homemade shim or something? thanks ahead of time

pop can shim will prolly work ...cut it and wrap around the bars n try it again ,,,use 2 work back in the day ,....LOL

I'm with mikesbikes36 on this one. I've done this a few times, it works.
