Hey all. new to the boards. Trying to learn as much as possible from a few bike boards. Picked these up at a local bike aution last weekend.

1960 26" Schwinn Speedster
1959 26" Schwinn Hollywood

Started cleaning the 1960 Speedster first with the Bendix two speed kick back hub.

This is what they looked like when I bought them.

I love that they have sequential Bicycle license stickers on them from 1969.

Here is where I am at with the cleanup.

Newbie Question for you.

How do I get this chain off.

Thanks,

Glen

Nice bikes. Cleaned up well.

Flex the chain towards the side with the plate and it should come fairly easy. Put your thumbs on either side of that link and push them to flex the chain.

Yes, but in reverse. That is an older style masterlink(2piece) not used as much as it has been replaced by the 3 piece masterlink.

I had never seen a master link like those until a couple of weeks ago. A local tire store/ garage was clearing out some old stock and I bought several of the links and some other bike stuff. That red bike cleaned up well.I'm new here myself. Welcome. 8)

Nice job cleaning of a great old bike. It looks like it probably has the infamous S-7 rims, which will only take S-7 26"x1 3/4" tires.
