If you look up at the top navigation bar in the forum you'll see the new "Media" link up there. This will be taking the place of the old gallery system we had.

The forum software that we use now offers this media system that allows users to upload photos and embed videos.

You create an album and upload your photos and then people can search for photos. You need to make sure that you include a good descriptive title that pertains to the subject of your photos along with tags. These images are searchable just like posts in the forum and it makes the search results more accurate if you provide the details. If you're uploading several pics of a particular bike, call the album the year, make and model of the bike, etc.

Would love to see lots of cool bike photos fill up the media system. I'm encouraging everyone to give a try and tell me what you think.

So that's why the site was updating, ill take advantage when I fully grasp all this stuff.

When uploading media you want to make sure that you create a new album and then set the viewing properties for the album to "Everyone."

Why does it only show the ten most recent photos at the top of the forums page? I know that you can go to 'Media' and see them all, but it would be nice to be able to scroll through them also.

Something that would be great if I could get some volunteers would be for folks to create albums based on bike brand and move a bunch of the photos from the "SHOW ME YOUR..." section into these albums.

This way you could click on a particular brand of bike and see an album full of those bikes.

Steve, should I load all of my pictures on one build into an album? It seems that would create a lot of media, I don't want to overload the site. I have had trouble adding pictures directly from my computer to the post, and even more trouble dragging my photos from other sites!! Also, adding the pictures to the media area and the build threads seems kind of redundant.

Thanks,
Big Ape

Good rule of thumb...share the best photos you have and keep it simple. No need to upload 100 photos when 5-10 get the point across.

Upload images directly to the posts should be pretty easy. Make sure the photos are no larger than 1.6mb in size and the dimensions should not be any larger than 1600x1600 pixels.

If this is too tricky to figure out then just do it the old fashioned way and host them on a 3rd party photo hosting site like Photobucket.

Well, I liked looking at all of them from time to time, but I noticed it gone when I tried to go to mine to pull up an older photo of the Raceliner to post on my FB page.

Yeah, didn't want to have two systems running at once. My cost for photo hosting is rising quickly so I needed to consolidate what I could.

You need to create a new media album for the Raceliner and add all the photos you have to it. :wink1:

I don't think you really want all the photos that I have, your cost would really go up!
There was one photo in particular that I was looking for and I'm not even sure if it was in that gallery collection.

This may help with costs, I find 1024 pixels wide is an optimum size for posted pics. Fills screen and shows details yet you can see whole pic without scrolling. I'm gonna try to only upload pics in this width. If members don't want to lose resolution of their pictures - save a lower resolution pic with "small" in the filename and upload that.
