As a kid my parents bought me a doodoo brown ape hanger, banana seat, 20” Schwinn probably around ‘82
I wanted a bmx, so I started mowing, raking leaves etc to get the money to build one. I got some yellow skyways from my uncle for a big job I helped him with. Then the rest I bought from department stores. Over the next couple years I would tear it down and repaint it a couple of times a year.
That bike helped mold me. As I grew up I have built hot rods, mini trucks etc.
My gpa recently passed and in the barn was a 24” Schwinn. So I decided to pay homage to my original bike. It’s an ongoing project and am already looking at building a muscle bike now.
