Nexus Inter3 Hub - brake grease?

The brakes on my Nexus3 hub are making that 'I need grease' noise - again. In the past I have just dropped the wheel in to my shop and had the hub serviced, but I used my Ph.D. in Ebay and have a tube of genuine Shimano Hub Brake grease in my possession now. But where to install?
All the online resources I can find for servicing Nexus hubs say remove the rubber cap and squirt.

The 'inter 3' model has no such rubber bung/cappage.

Remove outer dust cover and apply directly around drum?
