Hi gang,

I seem to remember that sometime ago on the CBN website there was someone who made an adapter for Nexus hubs. I think these were for disc brake setups, but i can't remember. Does anyone know if there is a way to adapt a Skip Tooth cog onto a Nexus Hub? Feel free to chime in with ideas.

Thanks, Joe

Re: Nexus/Skip Tooth cog compatability ?

seems this is a popular question lately! all you need is a grinder and some patience. and eye protection 8)

Re: Nexus/Skip Tooth cog compatability ?

OK, for fit compatability this will work. If i said i would do this and wanted to ride the bike 100 miles does anyone think there would be weird wear to the sprockets or chain? This seems like an easy solution to a more difficult problem, hmmmm :?

For those who have done this have you experienced a lot of adjustment after riding? Loose chain, weird noises, other strange things?

Thanks for the help,
Joe

Re: Nexus/Skip Tooth cog compatability ?

on the rear gear i started with a 22t and did this a long time ago. never have had an issue with it at all it works just fine. on a front gear though i think because of the larger diamiter it does not work as well and the sprocket will move on the chain when going back to the coaster brake. but i have not had this problem with the rear gear.

Re: Nexus/Skip Tooth cog compatability ?

Well then, thats enough testimonial for me!

Off to the grinder them and a proper skip tooth sprocket up front.

YIPPEE!

Thanks again, thats why this site is the best!

Re: Nexus/Skip Tooth cog compatability ?

i will say one thing make sure your chain line is somewhat straight. because the modern gear is a lit thinner than an old skip gear you want to make sure the chain won't "walk" from side to side that would cause trouble

Re: Nexus/Skip Tooth cog compatability ?

I took karfer's advice for my old schwinn and it's been fine every time I've ridden it. Unfortunately I have a bunch of bikes so it doesn't get much use but it's been on a couple 10 mile rides.

Well, I followed the advice to grind off every other tooth and yeah it looks cool, BUT there is about 3/8" inch of play between the teeth by the chain. i have a brand new skip tooth chain on it too so i know it is not stretched or twisted etc.

Anyone else have the play?

Thanks, Joe

if you mean side to side play that is fine and normal. like i said as long as your chain line is somewhat ok you will be fine

Hey Joe I would think if you toook the rear sprocket off of both to any machine shop they could mill the skiptooth with the same inside as the Nexus. Its probably a quick deal.
