Never let a skip tooth chain soak in vinegar for longer than 24 hrs. I put one rusty skippy in, and took 3 clean ones out. Best I could tell, it ate the heads off of the pins so they would slip right out.

Not just vinegar. Never let acid of any kind touch a chain. Use electrolysis. Works great and will never, never harm a chain. Same goes with sprockets.

being honest, ive tried both, and got the same results, but i dont know if the electro whatever will eat away. just be careful


If you removed material from the part you were trying to un-rust, then you may have had the leads hooked up backward. The electro whatever cannot eat away material. BTW, the garage journal is awesome. Props to you for being on it.
