Hello All,

So there I was, pleasent Sunday ride and decided to cut through the park,
well I was peddaling along at a good clip and feeling good. BAM OUCH BLAST
Seems a stick lodged itself in the chain and in seconds the chainguard was
destroyed, ripped clean off in the front. I really should have taken it off long ago
as I never liked it anyway. I 'll ride it this way for awhile and keep an eye out
for a Phantom guard.

Here's a photo of it lookin a wee bit more ratlike. :D

Cheers.

If your riding through a cemetery are you sure it wasnt a leg bone or something??? I would think its a regular Schwinn chainguard. Unless its a copy of an old feather one. Somebody here should have a replacement.

The bare chain seems a little out of place next to the tank, full fenders, and rack. Still a beautiful bike.

i'll second that. this is one sweet ride, but you almost expect to see a big black and white chain guard

beautiful bike! kinda looks like an beautifull old cadillac with no hub caps, without that guard.

I agree...replace guard. Does that bike have a Nexus 7? If so, how many teeth are there on the chain ring? Thanks, Gary

Hello All,

The stick was about 1/2 round {estimating}, the part that was mounted
to the bike was ok. The guard itself was ripped off of the rivited bracket
in the front. Thin flimsey tin, not a feather in the cap for the asian manufacturer.

A Caddy without hubcaps, sure enough I know what you mean.

Gary looks like it's a 36 tooth{+/-} with the Shimano 7 speed. I was considering a
larger chainring then I gotta lengthen the chain to so this little one does Ok for now.

Moral of the story "Keep your eyes on the path ahead"

Cheers.

If you live in hilly country, leave that 36 tooth ring right where it's at. I have the original 52 tooth ring on a bike I put a Nexus 7 on and 1st gear is not all that low. 7th gear is awesome, though. If I had the legs for it, that bike would go 60mph! I may change to one of those 46 tooth repro sweetheart rings real soon. Gary

not too familure with the nexus 7, but i heard its more of an overdrive hub with its 1st gear close to a 1:1 ratio. best with a small ring up front, but with a 46 up front, if you don't have to go up many hills, then you'll really haul...
