I have a Fuji six speed that I like. I will not be rat rodding it. Maybe someone who has worked on a bike with the same brakes can answer a question... The brake levers are Diacompe . I can't figure out how to remove the levers to replace a brake cable. There is a clamp around the handlebars , but the screw is hidden. There is what appears to be a pin thru the levers that may need to drive out. The pin is approx one quarter inch in diameter and is red , anodized aluminum. I tapped on one of the pins and it moved in both directions but I don't want to damage anything as I'm not sure if the pin is tapered or straight. I just bought three more bicycle repair manuals on Ebay , but they have not arrived yet. Can anyone advise? Thanks :?:

The screw can be seen by depressing the handle and looking in the opening.

You usually don't need to loosen or take off the brake handle to change a brake cable. Once you get slack in the cable the round cable end slides right out, then the new one slides right in.

Yep, just disconnect or cut the cable at the brake, that 1/4" "pin" you were looking at is slotted on one side (inside) and the cable should come right out.

squeeze the lever to "close" the caliper, then hold the caliper "closed" and release the lever, it will give you slack in the cable. Remove the cable from lever and do the reverse to install new cable.

I was trying to remove and free up a stuck cable. I finally got it off and got the cable out of the housing. I cleaned and lubed the cable , but it will still not work smoothly in the housing. I suppose I will have to replace it.
