Picked up this OCC StingRay for a sand bike build. Nothing special about the bike. It's actually pretty rusty and I overpaid a little for it. The cool thing about this find was talking with the seller and his parents. When I called about the bike, the mom told me that it was her 13 year old son that was selling the bike. She also described how he was a good boy staying out of trouble by cutting grass for extra money and working on bikes as a hobby, but needed to clear out his inventory a bit. I felt $30 was a little over for the condition, but I just couldn't haggle with a 13 year old. The parents let the boy handle the entire deal and I was impressed by his demeanor and it was cool to see how proud he was of his bike work. I gave him a few tips on working on bikes and organizing his spare parts in rubber tubs (his mom loved that). I also told them about RRB and how our 16 year old Double Nickel came in 2nd place in the Build Off. I hope they come to the site and get some ideas. I love seeing a kid with a wrench and it felt good trying my best to provide some mentoring advice. I am usually a fairly ruthless haggler, but there was more to this deal than money.

Here is the StingRay

And here is what I hope to do with part of it.

Cool find! :D Funny how you got it from someone my age

Wow, how many youg'uns are there on RRB. I had no idea you were that young. That is toooooo cool!

I love your YA build. Awesome bike. Keep that wrench turning. As you can tell from how many older guys we have here, this "bike thing" (as my wife calls it) can be fun (and profitable) for a long time.

That's awesome. I guess, I forget how big I was into bikes when I was your ages. My best friend and I would take three or four busted bikes and make one good one out of it.
For some reason I just assumed that most everyone on RRB was an old fart like me. Glad to know we have plenty of talented young blood too.
