....If you happen to see an old stationary exercize bike sitting out for free, take a good look at it; I've grabbed these when I see em, they mite have good seats, seat posts, cranks, pedals, etc. Sometimes the handlebars wont work but most are just like bikes use.
Thot I'd throw out this recycling tip...

Thanks man, there are some cool builds on here that make great use of those parts. I got a terrific Persons brand seat off one, totally clean beautiful "vintage" look. The chainguards are put to some cool use here too.

Not only that, but a lot of times you can score some nice vintage looking reflector free pedals from the older ones 8)

Large chainrings are cool and often found on these. Since many of them run heavily weighted wheels or a flywheel they will have heavy duty freewheels and chains, and some have a fixed gear cog. Don't forget speedometers and tachometers. To me the things are a gold mine and I've only ever gotten my hands on one, but I've used almost every part of it on different builds.

Jeezum Crow!! I didn't even think about speedo's. (Is that the right contraction, with the apostrophe in for the missing letters? (Now I just typed a hundred more letters to ask about skipping five!  ))

An old post from my blog...
Older exercise bikes are generally a good source for parts that are in great (unused) condition. Found one today and stripped it.

This one was dumped on the side of the road. I stripped it right there on sight. I can't recall what brand it was though. Probably JC Pennys or something similar. I've bought another one before just for the speedo.

I picked up a schwinn exercycle at the landfill a while back, for free. Sold the sprocket, crank assy., speedo, bars, kept the chain for myself. The schwinns also have some (6 I think) really cool chrome acorn nuts that come in handy every once in a while. This thing was in mint condition. I don't think it was ever left outside until they dumped it! If you see one, grab it!
