Just picked this up, was listed for $100, got it for $50, hope it was a good deal.
head badge says Chicago on it and the serial number is right next to it on the neck, GR520353 and a very small 0761 on the badge itself.
I think im just gonna throw some white walls on it and a call it a day, maybe flip the handlebars and find a rusty chain guard for it, but besides that. I dont know though, they sure do look nice when they're fixed up, but I like the rust on this one too, even the grips are original!

That would be July of 1980 according to the chart, that head badge may not be the original, or it could actually be a '91.

Maybe an 81, I know they say they started numbering the headbadges later on, but I have a 79 Suburban which has a stamped badge that ends in 9, sooooo.... -Adam

Thats an '81. "Cruiser" in this case not only describes the style but the model name. Could also have been a SPitfire I think that year.

Good bike to tear down, sandblast and repaint a color you like.

GR = June '80 frame, 0761 is 76th day of 1981 for a build date. You could pull the crank and get a date off that, and there may be a date inside the front fork... about where the dropout is. Little stamp that might say for instance "12+0" for Dec 1980.

Perfect start to a rat project. Have fun! I regret letting go of the one I had years ago.
