Hey guys, it's been quite awhile since I've built up a project bike just for Me!
The last one I did was the Walgoose Beast, but there were so many of them posted, and I didn't do anything very special to it, so I did not post much about it.
I found this ORBEA 10 Speed at a garage sale for $10 bucks.
Most likely late '60s or early '70s when the 10 speed craze was going strong.
Steel lugged frame, Made in Spain, it was a pretty fair bike for it's time.
I've never built a Fixie --- So I decided that it was about time.
So I ordered a Flip/Flop wheel set - came complete - 700 - 25 tires and all.
I wanted a nice set of brake calipers, so I also ordered up this set of TekTRO R559 long reach side pulls.
The rest was from parts I got at swaps or had lying around in my junk bins.
I couldn't bear to cut down the Orbea branded drops, so I made bull horns out of a pair I also had lying around.
I cleaned up the frame, and shot a light coat of clear over the original patina. Lots of scratches, and scuffed up stickers.
I used the original BB and removed the large chain ring, kept the small one and ended up with 46/16 gearing.
Kind of a challenge on hills, but pretty fast on the flats.
I'm not sure if I'll ever be brave or foolish enough to flip over to the fixed, so far staying on the freewheel side.
