I have no idea why I felt compelled to buy this rusty hunk and attempt to rebuild it, but I did. It's been soaking for a couple months, and today was a perfect rainy day (couldn't rake leaves) to attempt to rebuild it. I just wish I had something to do with it now that it's rebuilt.
Does anyone know what brand of hub it is? The brake arm is so rusty there's no visible lettering.
I thought at first that it was too far gone to rebuild. There was even a hunk of chain rust-welded to the skip tooth cog:
the rust was no match for this stuff:
the next step was to run a thread repair dye on the axle:
diss-assembly:
this screw was too far gone:
cleaning:
where do I get something to cap off the grease port?:
assembly:
I found a new lock ring:
wahlah! Done. It may look really crusty, but rolls smooth and tight. I'm going to put it on my desk at work for now. I'll probably never use it for a wheel. Hopefully it'll go to someone else someday and get laced up.
This is only the third hub I've rebuilt, and I can say, that I'm not afraid of any hub now.
