Hey anybody around the Houston area looking for a reasonable powder coating guy , I found one. A friend gave me the heads up on a guy in Manvel Tx. about 12 miles from the south end of Houston. He will powder coat a bike frame and fork for $50 . Will also beadblast a frame for $10. So if your interested get with me and I will give you his phone number. This is simple colors...a thousand..the candies are more. Got some stuff over there now and will report back how it turns out. He is doing a rusty crank and skiptooth in silver he said looks alot like chrome.

Man $50 is a deal...... I think I could ship a frame down there and back and still be cheaper than anyone would do it up here.. I found a guy that would do a frame and fork for $125 and I thought that was cheap.. My normal powder coater quoted me $250

He did a crank and skiptooth. His chrome paint looks silver grey. It looks good other than one little spot where he hung it and it didnt spray right. going from a rusty crank and sprocket to anything is better. The only drawback is if you want darts or scallops they wont stick to this stuff. so your stuck with one solid color. It cost me about $8 for him to powdercoat this crank and sprocket. I think its pretty much shame on you if you ever tried to get this stuff off.

Yeah that looks pretty good..... I have lots of stuff powdercoated and there is always a spot where they tied a wire or hung it on a hook (they wire everything... I suppose something to do with charging it for the powder to stick)

Hello Uncle Stretch and All,

In a conversation with a local powdercoater,
He reported that removal of powdercoating
is best cooked off in an oven then media-blasted.
His charge per frame is $95 for most colors.
The coating is about a 2 week turnaround.
Not bad I thought, now I gotta start wrapping pennies.

Cheers.

I think the silver come out pretty good. Does the chain still fit on the sprocket?

I have a couple of friends that have successfully painted over powder coat. Here's one example...

Man that looks super. The guy told me you couldnt scratch the stuff so my next question is how do you get the powdercoat rough enough to hold paint?

thats a good price for powder coating and blasting ...is that a sign of the bad economy ?
I never heard paint wouldn't stick to the powder coat but I have heard the water slide decals won't stick.

This guy is just starting out built everything himself. A really nice setup...I took the tour. he loves bike frames . he said they are quick light and clean up easy. Kinda funny on his prices though. He beadblasted a frame, chainguard, and a rack then powder coated the crank and sprocket all for $30 but wanted $20 to blast a rusty rim. ???? I couldnt figure it out ,but my rim is still rusty

I cleaned up my own frame and had the frame and fork powder coated red for $40.00 Tony
That is what im trying to get away from ,is cleaning my own frame. If someone will beadblast them for $10 I'm up for that. I can wirebrush the paint off quick ,but its taking a toll on my shop. Everything on shelves is getting this coaiting of brown dust. its way to nasty in there.

I haven't made it back down there yet, but I got people  seriously my cousin works at a place that builds office furniture and he says next time I am down to bring some frames to powdercoat  I just need some free time to run back down to Lathrop.

That sound like a sweet deal. I thought the radiator shop deal was sweet but if this guy can blast it and powdercoat it, that save me a lot of time. Primer and Krylon adds up after a while. I can be to Manvel in 45 minutes.
