powdercoat a chainring??

i guess the title question is it.
i've heard painting a chainring will become a mess. i've never done it because it seems obvious.

but powdercoat??? it crossed my mind on something i workin' up presently.....

has anyone done this? is it a workable option?

the main thing is not to get paint on too thick cause it will gum up your chain, i guess it just depends on how thick the coat is, some of us can get carried away with a spray bomb, id expect it to wear the powder coat off eventually but my townies sprocket is PC'd black straight from Electra. done right, i dont think you would notice a thing.

why not just mask off the teeth to about a 1/4 past the bottom of the teeth , and just paint it ?
