I found this Elgin:
Serial number is: S 5616
The rear hub is marked : diamond and C, should be second quarter of 1937. New Departure W front hub.
Firestone de Luxe Champion 26 x 2.125 tires, nice condition, I don't know if they came with the bike or are a replacement.
Art Deco stem and bar marked T at the left end, maybe Torrington...
Nice Troxel seat. with a locker on it.
The skip tooth chain is like new.

Pictures, sorry some are bad:

Very nice! That's the great thing about girls bikes, they're usually in much better condition than the boys bikes. It looks like it will clean up nicely.

I know what I'd do with it if it were mine.:D

I know, I should put salt on it and leave it in the rain.

The bike was for sale on line for one week, an old lady had it.
The price was a little high so I offered my price and she accepted, but she didn't come back to me till today.
I bought the bike to part it, but now I don't know.

are that screw used for oiling the fork?

I don't think they were added, because there are two more on the frame at the bottom bracket.
You can see them in the last picture from the main post.
Actually i saw a picture of a Elgin, on nostalgic.net, very similar.

The zerk fitting was a factory install. It's shown in the Elgin catalog, thinking it was only a few year application. Around 1936, as I recall.
The lubrication system was billed as "Alemite Pressure Lubrication".
My 36 Swallow had the zerk fittings.
I personally didn't think it was a good design. Packing the crank and headtube full of axle grease just is messy and a bit overboard. But, for one that didn't service bearing like we do today by just cleaning and regressing just the bearings, I guess it worked for that ease of Lubrication.
