Man it seems like as things get worse with the economy the price of bikes listed here seem to skyrocket. I havent seen so many $375 $450 bikes listed since I have been looking. Maybe everybody is selling there "I won't ever sell this one " bikes . I guess I would be the same way . If you get my best you would have to pay for it .

I bet they arent being sold to help pay the food bill. I bet they are being sold to pay the bike bill. That is how I do it. I try to keep my bike money seperate. Unless I see something on CL that I have the wife pickup

That latest Higgins is pretty cool.

i try to do the same as cman, but lately ive found my bike money is quickly going to nonbike stuff :( .... ill just have to ask for double on the next sell to make up i suppose

Well I'm still picking up some sweet scores off ebay....like a PR Brick Tread Red 26 x 2.125 tires for $25!! and a prewar girls bike for $10 + shipping
Alot of people are just taking whatever they can get. I just took $18 for a set of prewar 20'' dropcenter wheels just cause I needed them sold and didnt want to sit on them.

I've slowed down on splurging but that dosent mean we cant learn how to save. It might be a longer process but you will get what you want if you really want it.

I have money? Where is this money of which you speak?

Here in Madison, bike prices have gone through the roof. Mostly because people are actually using them. I see folks dragging old bikes out of the basement just to save on gas. Lots of nice vintage stuff is rolling around town. My local bike hoarder/parts guy made the same observation. He said his business almost doubled this summer.

Well even though the stock market is totaled the gas prices are dropping like a rock here. Gas is down to $2.40ish . If it drops any lower I'm going to order my H 1 Hummer.  Ok maybe a Hemi Charger. Would you believe a big cc bike motor for my rollfast???

Wow, $2.40 a gallon? I'm moving to Texas! It's still $3.09 a gallon up here, but that's down from over $4.60 a gallon this summer... And yeah, bikes seem to be the only stable market out there right now. While everything else is up and down and everyone is terrified, the price of old bikes seem to be pretty much steady, if not a little bit higher around me. So I guess I'm going to have to try to put all my money into bikes before everything else crashes!

Yeah... i had to convince my wife to let me buy a few more projects while i could afford to do so... And she's sweet enough to pretend to believe me.

I cant believe that yall are having problems getting your wives to let you buy bikes. I just put my foot down when I want something..and say please please can I have it ...pretty please sniff sniff moan whine.

haha, you guys are all suckers for getting married hahhahahaha........

I do what I want! You don't know me! - Eric Cartman...... it's how I live my life....

haha, I am married and I can buy all the bikes and parts I want. I came home this afternoon and told her I had ordered a bunch of parts for my buildoff bike. She sez, what did you order? I sez pedals, cables, brake levers. She sez, you don't have all that in that pile of s-- stuff in the back yard? I answered, yes but I wanted shiny stuff. I expect her back from Wal Mart any time now.
