I have a question about the lower truss rods on a set of Roadmaster Springer Forks.
I am wondering if a set of straight Hawthorne lower truss rods can be substituted for the curved ones that come on Roadmaster forks since both forks are nearly identical except for the different-shaped lower truss rods.
Since they are curved, Roadmaster lower truss rods are held onto the fork with a bolt, but the straight Hawthorne lower truss rods would have to be threaded and inserted directly into the odd-shaped nut that the Roadmasters use.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi! No problem, right up my alley - the bolt that holds the bumper style lower truss rods and the straight style lower truss rods are the same threading which is 3/8" X 24 - this is a fine thread for 3/8". Just remove the bolt (if present) and the straight truss should screw into the fitting with your fingers. There is no tightening point - you screw them in until the holes in the truss line up with the holes in your fork and fender braces if used. Turning them in farther sets the front wheel axle that much deeper into the fork slots but the final adjustment is whatever works for you the best. BTW, there are no locknuts on this to hold it in place. I have a dozen of these forks for my CWCs and I did just the opposite for my RRBBO5 bike - I removed the straight style and installed a pair of the bumper style I got off ebay. I had a Roadmaster when I was a kid with the bumper style so it's a nostalgia thing with me. If you have a set of the bumper style you don't want let me know and I might talk you into selling them to me. If you have any other questions or problems post it here - I'll check back. Have fun.
