I have seen it mentioned in various threads that some members won't sell anybike that they have altered or modified. I was wondering if that included a home made fixie. My concern would be the gear coming loose and some one riding it having an accident. I am a business owner and I amalways concerned with that aspect. I would appreciate any comments or feedback.

I was just speaking for myself, about liability. Not so much about being sued, but about "personal" responsibility. I make some pretty SCREWED up bikes. I would feel terrible if someone were injured. After all I'm not an engineer, I don't do any "research and development" on anything I make. Bottom line, I'm not a professional, it's a hobby, I do it for FUN!...What I did find out is that there are a number of HIGH quality builders and designers out there that WON'T sell you a bike, but they'll sell you a bike in KIT form (you build). Or they'll sell you the PLANS to build one of their bikes (Atomic Zombie). This way here YOU built it, YOU are liable!

If I see a bike that is so totally different, and the person is selling PLANS, I BUY the plans even though I could probably just copy it (build) from a photo. Especially if it's an idea I NEVER would have thought of. This way I can't be accused of "copying" someone else's design, I paid for it.............AH, I bought a set of plans a couple of years ago, It's my favorite bike, just haven't gotten around to making it...... It's 10x more SCREWED up then anything I ever thought of!
