I recently bought a 3 spd. Sturmey Archer rear wheel, and I need to get a shifter for it. Will any Sturmey shifter work on it? The hub has a small chain coming out of it, if that helps any. Thanks, Dave.

Basically, any Sturmey-Archer branded 3 speed will work, except for the ones designed for the s3x 3speed fixed-gear hub, and the one thumb shifter they made for the Shimano Nexus 3.

You just need to get a Sturmey-Archer 3 speed shifter, but NOT the one that says for the s3x or for the Shimano Nexus. (Yes, Sturmey makes a shifter for a Shimano hub.)

You don't have the s3x, so any of the twist shifters, over/under triggers, or the old style trigger will fit. In fact, go here: http://sturmey-archer.com/products/shifters/cid/3/id/11.html

Any of those 3 speed shifters, except the bottom 2, will work for your hub. Also, anything Sturmey Archer and 3 speed and vintage. Do NOT use anything for the s3x (your hub has a coaster, so it's definitely not a s3x), and do not use this one: http://www.niagaracycle.com/categor...shimano-nexus-3-speed-right-hand-black-silver

So, yeah, any SA 3 speed shifter, with only 3 exceptions.

You are smart to use the Sturmey 3spd coaster...Nice hub, but needs to be carefully
adjusted...if so, you will have no problemos.
