I have a 63 Schwinn Middle weight that I am rebuilding but is not going to be original. It came with a 26 inch series 200 Knurled front rim and a bad tire; no back wheel. I am wanting a rear coaster set -up and possibly just a new front wheel as well. Can anyone give me some ideas as to some places that might sell something as far as a wheel set(front and back) and tires as well. I would like to have white tires and rims if possible but chrome would work. I really do not want to break the bank but do not want cheap stuff as well. Is there anyone making knurled rims and wheel sets that are good quality without breaking the bank? I have looked at some of the companies noted here but I am not really sure what I should be looking for exactly. This is my first build and I am wanting to do it some justice. I appreciate the help. Flint

Which model? Schwinn had a lightweight 26x1 3/8" , middleweight 26 x 1 3/4" and a Balloon 26x 2.125. All these required different size wheels.

If you have a middleweight bike you probably could buy 26 x2.125 tires and rims. Lightweight and you are pretty much stuck with skinnier tires.

Post up a pictures or give us the model.

Why knurled? I haven't seen new knurled rims in, um, ages. Are you running rim brakes?

If I were in your shoes, I'd go with 26x2.125 stuff, aka S2 aka 559 aka just about every modern-spec 26" wheels. This will maximize your color options. If you're just planning on a coaster brake, I might more specifically suggest this wheelset:

http://www.niagaracycle.com/product_info.php?products_id=738584 White rims, pretty cheap, decent stuff (the KT hub is suspect, but whatcha gonna do for <$100?)

Of course, first move isto check out the used market; the RRB for sale section can be good; craigslist is hit-or-miss but there are dealz out there. Another option, if you can build/lace your own wheels, is to decide what you really want and build yourself a custom set,,,

I picked a $35 girls Huffy Good Vibrations recently just because it had 26" aluminum rims with 2.125 white walls. I ganked the wheelset for another bike, put a crappy set of steel wheels back on it, and sold it for $70 on CL.

Be patient, look around for used bikes for parts.
