Hi,

Looking at painting rims on my bike, other than removing tyres tubes and masking up... is there any special paint or tips anyone can give me ?

Was going to paint white walls but I think a couple of new tyres may be the way to go

And can you get like spike wheel nuts?

Thanks

MrG

I learned on this forum to use white shoe polish on my black tires , just take your time and do several coats..

Can you paint chrome wheels? the donor bike the ally rims were going to come from are not the best in the world although bars are.........

MrG

Yes, you can paint chrome.

You should clean them thoroughly to remove grease. Scuff them with a green scotchbrite type scrub pad. Prime the wheel with something like Dupli-color primer. Let it completely dry. Can't stress that enough. Be patient and wait the extra day before handling the wheels again. Paint the top color in 2 or 3 or more coats. Use the same brand of paint as the primer.

Again, be patient before handling the wheels when you go to put the tires back on. Fresh paint is SO soft, you are guaranteed to scratch everything badly when you reinstall the tires, unless you give the paint time to dry. It makes a huge difference.

Ask me how I know this!
Good luck!

yeah but you gotta scuff the chrome. Coarse sandpaper or scotchbrite works well.
