Racked Up

This was a display unit at LBS went in dumpster Wed. nite I found it Thur morn and stashed it at my buddys store (next to LBS) until I could get my Jeep and pick it up.And I had just bought material to build one for my camper! have to fab a 2" hitch bar but the list price sticker on this baby was $269! Last month got a spare tire mount Thule that just needed some hardware.

Did you look in the dumpster for the mounts..LOL..
You can probably find the stock hardware on line and just bolt it together..Good score...
I found my Thule in the dump..holds four bikes and swings to the right to open my back doors on my van..
I just welded on piece on it and re painted it..silly people throw stuff away..lol

I never do that...
I find looking in dumpsters illegal for whatever reason...Is this frowned upon at all?

I find it a moral obligation to pick the trash. This is in the trash that goes to the land fill and not a recycling area that he makes money on. I save space in his dumper for more trash he has to pay per dumpster pickups. My RRBO5 bike came mainly from this dumpster and some bought inside the LBS. Win-Win situation. The BS owner knows I dive and no problem!

I think my bike shop things I'm wierd enough...And I dont think it would help if they KNOW I was diving...Ill wait until they close for the day maybe?

I don't care I dumpster dive as well, sometimes they get upset because they think you're gonna make a mess
that they have to clean up, just let them know you're trying to scavenge some parts and you'll clean everything
up when you're done and they normally don't have a problem. I've pulled rims, frames, several boxes, and even
complete bikes out of the LBS dumpster. One time I got a box for a set of cranks I was going to ship out, once
I picked it up it felt kinda heavy for just the box, turns out the new crank was left in it. :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:
I got a nice 3 piece BMX crank for free that retails for $149! I did do the right thing and asked if he threw it out
by mistake and he said they were scratched so they were indeed thrown out.......SCORE!

Now they know me well enough that I don't even have to dig stuff out they put them aside for me.
