I know that someone knows alot about Ralieghs. This guy has some rims....no tires and he wants some. They are off of a womans raliegh. It has a sturmey archer 3 speed . the number on it was 590 23.26 1.375 I'm not sure if anything can be told from this number ,but it was all I saw on it. If someone can tell me where he can find some tires to fit it ,I would appreciate it.

And there's Raleigh Record tyres. Whatever tyre make sure it also has '650a' on it and it will be ok.

it would be highly unlikely you'd find that designation on a chinese made tire for sale in a u.s. bike shop- most likely you'd just get a look like this  :| :?

Ah! The stuff over here would likely have 26x1 3/8, 650a and 590 marked on the same tyre. But if you do see 650a you'll know it's not Schwinn's invented measurement.

:)

I guess the guy will order the ones Clancy came up with. I wish they would have made everything the same where it would be easier to buy stuff.

ISO 590 26"x 1 3/8" tires were hard to find for a couple of decades, but with the trendy 650 designation more places are carrying them again.

that seems odd, it's been (and along w/the 597's, continues to be) a very common repair item for us over the years. the same distributors that carried them in 1985 carry them today. i guess it depends on whether or not your lbs is 'into' those bikes- i know it's all too common for a customer to be told something doesn't exist or isn't available only because the knucklehead at the counter hasn't heard of it.....

Not when they're active engaged in selling "newer! better!" more limited types of stuff, i.e. 26atb and 700c. Some places are great, some not so much. Right now there is a whole new world of parts, both custom and maintainance, that had only a very limited access to a large part of the market not so long ago, thank you MIT and Bill Gates.
