anyone remember how they were made? i worked by pulling on the spring as opposed to pushing on it. if i recall you needed a blade(schwinn) fork and a spring and you drilled the blade and mounted it to the fork. what i wanna know is what kind of spring you need and where to mount it.
 
I know JC Higgins had the beehive springer that pulled the spring, very similar to what you're talking about. It was mounted to a plate that was installed at the base of the steer tube and the wheel was installed on a set of swing arms then a big "U" shaped bar was then installed from the two swing arms over the spring and bolted in.
