Just in time for "Saturday the 13th" , I snapped a few pics of my "summer project", Rat-Ster. I couldn't find the original post, so I'll review. A very rusty late 60's Columbia sterling middleweight, very blah bike. Huge baskets. Here's the before:
I sanded it down, sprayed it with rust converter, then primer, and a red basecoat. Went over that with satin black, and sanded thru for some patina-ey red accents. I resprayed it with Valspar satin clear, which really brought it together. All the formerly chrome parts were beyond hope, so I scrounged some roadmaster bars, schwinn stem, red grips, and Murray cranks. I was trying to fix up the old seat, but scored this ratty Brooks on ebay. I repainted the Columbia logo on the headbadge with a reallt fine brush. So, here it is mocked up, sitting on some wheels that were handy. I may put a 24 x 3" on the back. Hopefully on red rims too. ~Adam
