So I am new to restoration. I mostly do girls cruisers, and try to stay original. yah I know, not too rat roddy, but was hoping for some creative help. I have a 51 schwinn I'm trying to prep for sell and a 52 thats complete except for 1 major issue on both. The saddle. I want to keep the original saddle. Im not fond of the look of a new seat on a old bike (unless the whole bike is overhauled, which these are not).

Since I like me some rust, I want my old seat, but I have never recovered a bike saddle. Im trippen on getting too crazy, and spending too much without knowing exactly were to start. Looking online, there isnt a whole lot out thier, and as I am not cool with a cheesy seat, I was hoping someone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction, or hook me up with some pointers.

hey candy, got a pic of the old seat (top and bottom) some of em are alot easier to recover than others.

some seats consist of 2 pans sandwiched together while others have clips/rivets etc to hold the leather/pleather to the seat.

So yah, I just spent the last hour of my life (after searching the internet aimlessly) ripping the old seat apart and putting new vinyl on. I did my first cuz that one is mine and is never going anywhere. Ill do the 51 like wed so I can take it to a car show sat. Kinda stoked on my 1st upoulstery attempt.

Hiya
ok its prob a double pan so it makes life alot easier i covered my 49 schwinn seat last year with out adding any padding and doing long rides with just a pan and fabric kinda hurts so i did this last week..
so instead of foam that you have to buy and cut down and stuff . i found a cover at walmart for bicycle saddle seats theres a gel pad and memory foam pad both you cover the seat with pull on the drawstring type deal one was 10 bucks the other was 16 .

i got the gel pad cover . took the seat apart again . already had the Craft Bond Spray Adhesive, took my leopard fabric off . sprayed a light coat of glue on the pan . put the gel cover on got it all snug pulled the plastic barrel off (holds drawstrings) and tied the strings .. then i used craft Bond spray adhesive ontop of the gel gover and recovered the seat with the leopard print fabric .... then put the bottom pan back on tightened everything back up and it was done .
the ride is so much better now .

that must be a big car, jen. what is it?
my 72 nova :) i can fit 2-26" cruisers and one 20" with apes .. of course the 26" i take the front wheels off for the trunk but it will fit in the back seat all assembled but it is a pain so i take the front wheel off for back there too

hey jen, i had a 71' cadillac eldorado that could fit 4 26" bikes, two in the trunk and two in the back seat, and still seat up to 4 tightly.

good luck on your reupolstering. that is one forte, along with flame jobs and pinstriping, ive yet to learn. look forward to finished picts.
