The last week or so...

IMG_20210626_143756197.jpg

Some tires (Thickslicks & Hutchinson Low Riders) and worksman rims from @Jsparks , thanks!

Thick Bricks from @rydr1 , thanks!

The rest from a swap meet I went to this morning (first annual!):
Schwinn twin straight bar frame/forks
Monark frame, 1949ish (it has some features I haven't seen before, and a strange model no.)
Three forks (CWC, Schwinn?, Colson?)
Shelby springer
Columbia chain guard
Set of Schwinn skiptooth wheels with tires
Unk set of rims with Carlyle tires (one blown out, one holding air)
Two sets of 700c rims, NOS (super champions and generic gold ano)

So, it turns out that the Monark frame may be my rarest vintage frame! I was puzzled by some frame features and the model number. Turns out it is a Super Twin frame (like a Whizzer, but cooler because it's a twin and a Monark ).

(reminder...I only have the bare frame)

I have some frame questions if anyone has some answers. I have four other post war Monarks, but I believe they are all in the '51-'54 range and differ from this frame.

First, there is an integral fork stop on the ST frame. I've seen some pics of Super Deluxes that have it, and others that don't. Is it only for the single spring Springers like on the ST? If so, did other Monarks get the single spring springer?

Most, but not all, of the junctions have beefy welds. Is this common to all early post war Monarks, or did the ST have beefier welds?

The width of the rear triangle is huge! Is this normal for early post war Monarks?

...and this is what got me started thinking something was odd about this frame...chain tugs!

...and here is the model number that made things even odder...

Some stuff from the last couple weeks...

Had been laying in the recycle bin at work, after seeing it everyday for a couple weeks...it grew on me, so I snagged it.

Enkei...MoFatta, MoBetta .
IMG_20210711_184956608.jpg

Panasonic framed Schwinn LeTour...I haven't looked for any numbers yet, but it's a 10spd with the round headbadge...so, probably earliest of 80s?

Cheapo slingshot stem
IMG_20210711_184725790.jpg

...and the item of most interest, imo, an Elgin boat engine!

... anybody know anything about these, cuz I sure don't

Today's swapmeet scores!

IMG_20210912_132036452.jpg

1) '41 ish Elgin frame, gothic fenders, half a tank  ...and Schwinn springer.

Cool thing is that it is a badged Elgin without alemite fittings...a point of evidence that supports my theory that on 40-41 Elgins, alemite was optional.

2) Mercury rack and chainguard... separate find from the frame, guard even has some crappy red paint traces on it... almost like it was meant to be there!

3) Monark springer and guard.

4) Shelby rack (supposedly off a Donald Duck bike :dontmentionit:).

5) 16" Kenda knobbies for grandkids bike...now I just need everything else!

6) 24" wheelset from 'modern' whizzer. Small drum up front, band brake in rear.

That's it!

Always up to something...but, I usually just gravitate to the best deals at a swapmeet. It's why it takes me so long to accumulate parts for a build. I literally accumulate more projects than parts for current projects.

1st world problems, bro.

Smalls I picked up at a recent swapmeet/show...

Black light is oil, both chrome are battery. Black widow cranks are 155mm for one of the grandkids first BMX race bikes.

Santa was for the Wife.

Younger daughter expressed interest in it, so I got it for her...for a buck.

The big stuff...

IMG_20220514_201124866.jpg

Pre-war girls Huffman. I'll strip the frame...girls bikes are just a bunch of spare parts attached to an awkward carrying case...imo.

So what part inspired this purchase?
IMG_20220514_201118296_HDR.jpg

Hmmm...this one? Under that black paint is a (not broke, not cracked!) Huffman aluminum stem.

Complete with...
IMG_20220514_201108505_HDR.jpg

Huffman 'H' bolt! This is for a Dayton (Huffman) I'm building for my younger daughter.

Next...
IMG_20220514_201731641_HDR.jpg

A Shelby frame plus parts. Not a favorite of mine, but cheap with track dropouts makes a cool Klunker or BMX cruiser if nothing else.
IMG_20220514_201748673_HDR.jpg

...will need some rear triangle straightening.

Last but not least...
IMG_20220514_201309165_HDR.jpg

A Monark Super Deluxe with almost all the pieces!
IMG_20220514_201336882_HDR.jpg

Train headlight, double spring fork, intact shroud.
IMG_20220514_201400427.jpg

Straight tank with horn and RAILS!
IMG_20220514_201405217_HDR.jpg

IMG_20220514_201450871_HDR.jpg

Rear rack with lights... tombstone rear reflector.
IMG_20220514_201512566.jpg

A kickstand I've never seen before.
IMG_20220514_201520761_HDR.jpg

I believe wheels are original, just a horrible spray job. Seat (and seatpost)...pedals... not original.

Super solid, super heavy, super cool...Super Deluxe!

Not recent...and a bit disturbing. I had to pull my two Electras out for an RV trip this weekend. Last time I had them out was October...maybe later as I vaguely remember having four Nexus7 bikes out for a family deal...but let's say, end of last year.

As I was digging through the horde to get to the Electras...I ran across what appears to be a '41 Roadmaster. I HAD NO MEMORY OF ACQUIRING THIS BIKE! I brought it out...and it's really pretty nice. Minty crank and chainring...very nice CWC springer with nice light mount... straight gothic fenders...curved fender struts...original paint and pins. Just missing a tank and decent seat to be a sweet ride. The only memory I conjured up was that I was told 'sorry, couldn't find the nuts for the front axle'...and I, 'no problem, I probably have some at home.' That's it...no when, where or who.

Archaeologically, it was between the the last RV trip and the Hawthorne Formula V I got in early April at the Portland auto swap meet.

I may have a problem.

She's in the back of this pic...
