Some of you know that I volunteer to teach at our nearby bicycle co-op. One of the bikes we are currently building in our class, a Schwinn World Tour, looked like it had been ridden with flat tires on a long, rough road. The consensus among the staff was that those wheels would need replacing, or at the very least re-lacing with new hoops.

Ten minutes later, those edges were smoother than a baby's butt greased with Desitin®. Another 15 on the truing stand, and that pair was squared-up and ready to go. Just be sure to give the rims a good scrub to remove the aluminum dust--it gets on everything.
