I needed to remove this 7 speed cassette from a wheel I am converting to a single speed. Since I didn't have the special tool I had to get creative.

I pulled the axle out to allow better access to the inner face of the free wheel. I grabbed a pair of bars from the scrap bin and tightened the stem inside the free wheel.

The stem slipped on the first couple tries so I had to keep tightening it up. Once it grabbed the free wheel came right off and didn't tear anything up.

My freewheel removel tool is 1/2" course pitch hex bolt put thru the pedal hole on a crank arm then weld in place. It works. But i like ur poor man's freewheel better.

i like that!

i've used expanding concrete anchors on cartridge bearings before- this is a cool variation!

i'll file this one away! 8)
