Does anybody know a safe way to remove standard Schwinn water slide decals without harming the paint ?

My older brother said "use a rag with hot water" which sounded like it would work but it didn't.
I read about acetone free nail polish remover, but I'de rather get a little feedback before trying that..

I'd just cover the decal with sticky packing tape, then pull it off quickly, like I'm tearing off a band-aid.

Vinegar will soften water slide decals. Try leaving a rag soaked in vinegar for a few minutes. One thing, if they were clear coated with a finish this probably wouldn't work. The vinegar, water or whatever can't get through to work it loose.

Acetone diluted with water removed some factory branding off my newer bikes while also stripping the topcoat off the original paint leaving a dull matte spot. But if it's a solid sheet decal goo gone (or just oil) for sure. Quick and indiscriminate vs tedious and shiny.
