well after a long stint away from this forum due to moving into my new house ive come crawling back!

Unfortunately in the moving process all my bike parts id stockpiled including a 20" to 24" torker bmx conversion frame i had in the works ended up goin to bicycle heaven which was also part of me being away from the forum due to the frustration of having to start from scratch again.

I recently picked up a brand new set of 28"x2.5" downhill mtb tyres for the grand sum of $6 which has sparked my interest once again to get back in the game and back to attempt number 2 of my mudtracker project.

Anyways my question is, what rim options do i have in regards to fitting these tyres too? 28" rims are rather scarce unless theyre pricey roadbike v-rims and the like, could i squeeze them over 29" rims? Im picturing a dualy setup which makes things easier if i manage to find skinny rims. Open to all offers and thoughts guys.

Haha yeah, anything bike related usually is! My local junk yard has a regular supply of mtb and road bikes so if i can get a hold of some 2nd hand rims the price will be kept down there!

Im a welder/fabricator by trade with access to pretty much any machinery you could ever need so il be modding and fabricating the majority of the work involved throughout the build.

Your tire should fit on any 700 wheel.

26" will be too small. The rubber wont touch the metal.

Traditional 28" rims have a BSD of 635mm. This will be for fractional size (eg, 28x1 1/2") rims. The OP probably has some 29er tires, which will have a 622mm BSD, but the smooth move is always to read everything that's printed on the sidewalls.

I assume when he says 28", he means 700c, in which case the above comments were correct, and they're the same as 29".

Ok so this was possibly the best info out of all replies in this thread! "Read the sidewall" so i did, turns out the tyres are 26" after all and not the 28" as stated on the brand new tags! This colda gone well pear-shaped lol! Cheers for all the input folks

Yeah, except in this case, the OP didn't know what "28inch" meant, and it turns out that it was probably a misprint anyway. This is why etrto/iso systems work so well... it removes obfuscation. Assuming that 28"= 700c has led to many folks ordering the wrong tires.

Ha, i've put my 28" days behind me, at least for the foreseeable future. But i used to roll on some hot Hindustani 28s with the red pinstripe... in some ways, i do miss those big hoops.
