Anybody ever try making fenders by splitting tubing ? Like maybe exhaust tubing? A lot of different sizes would be available and a muffler shop could bend it to the desired shape. :?:

If you have ever watched a muffler shop bend some tubing ...its usually a 90 degree bend .Their machine is not setup to make curves. Then there is the problem of how to cut a piece of tubing two times the length of it. I would imagine that fenders are stamped with dies and a flat piece of metal. Hard to duplicate and have it look nice. If you were real talented you could probably make some with an english wheel but as cheap as they are ,it would seem to be alot of work for very little results.....Just my 2 centavos

no, but I have considered looking into how you might be able to make one from sheet metal and a rolling machine. Kind of like how contractors make up eavestrough from sheet with an on site roller. of course you'd have to build that rolling tool from scratch, which is not totally out of the question, since I work as a machinist. once a person had a working roller, I think you could change out dies, making peaked, ribbed, and different widths etc. should be able to roll the curvature right into it at the same time somehow.

So yes, I have been thinking about it..... but it's still a ways off (out in imagination-land  )
