Actually I live in a small city that's just 5 miles from downtown Atlanta and everything here is within walking distance. Bikes work well enough in our town, though we have some dense traffic, as expected with any urban setting. I'm a big car guy, but my kids started riding a year ago and that started the bike thing for me. They love the liberty and control of it. I love the speed, simplicity and cost of bike projects compared to cars. Junk bikes are essentially free around here and I don't have the taste (or need) for high end parts. For example I pulled four bikes from my neighbor's basement after helping him with a small plumbing project- including a old schwinn hollywood. So free works well for me. Also makes it far easier to try anything without fear of wasting good parts. I've been lurking here for the last year or so and plan to post up my projects.
Glad to be here- Rob
